We had a great turn-out for our Reading Night. Thanks to the parents and caregivers who were able to take time out of their busy schedules to come to the Mighty McMillan library and read with their children. Please look for the next read-in on January 24th called, “Suckers, Snuggle and Share a Book.”

Furry Friends Food and Supply Drive

Thanks to Miss Rhonda and Miss Sparks for taking the initiative to start a Furry Friends Food and Supply Drive. We will be collecting food, toys, old blankets, pillows. etc. for kitties and dogs until next Thursday the 15th. Whenever your child makes a donation, Miss Rhonda lets them guess how many dog bisquits or kitty treats are in a container. The child with the closest estimate will win a gift card to Meijer. Miss Rhonda is also having students make furry friend book marks during recess time. We are very lucky to have Miss Rhonda and all her enthusiasm for our children and for our furry friends.

STAR Students Turned Safety

We have many students in our building to have the capacity to be leaders. Whenever there is an opportunity to grow students’ and empower them, we do. I am pleased to announce that we have “McMillan’s Angels”, or our new STAR Safeties. Ellie, Trina and Madison are assigned to keep an eye on our first and second grade students in the morning, as they come off of the bus. They also help to monitor the children who eat breakfast in the morning. At the end of the day, they are strategically stationed to remind students to be safe and walk to the busses. As the weather gets chillier and the kinders and preschoolers have more outer wear, they will be called upon to help teachers get their students ready for the bus.

The girls are doing a fantastic job! They are responsible and committed to keeping Mighty McMillan safe.

Mighty Girl Scouts Leave Their Mark…

Our Mighty McMillan Girl Scout troop planted daffodil and hyacinth bulbs in, what is planned to be, our “Giraffe Garden”. The garden will be a place where we honor those who have stuck out their necks for the good of others. In the Spring, we’ll continue to plant and build benches, so that our community can relax and enjoy. The girls broke ground today and were the first to initiate planting. They will be remembered as the ones who “got the ball rolling”. Way to be Giraffes!!

Family Fall Festival…Fun!!

Thanks to our PTO parents, our Fall Festival was a huge hit with our Mighty families! From the hot dog roast, hayride, raffle prizes, Karaoke, photo booth and our very own Mighty McMillan graduates helping with facepainting and photo ops, it was a great opportunity for our kiddos to spend time with their friends and families. A humongous thanks goes to the Schmidts, Grimards, Taylors, Landis’s, Barretts, Kerstings, Henrys and the parents who stepped in to help that evening. Thanks also to the teachers who were able to help, including Mr. Grant, Ms. Pflaum, and Mrs. Westgate. It’s great to see the McMillan community come together to have fun!

Mighty Families, thanks for participating our Fall conferences! One of the best things that you can do for your child and their education is to be interested and involved in their education. Please be sure to follow up with your child and their teacher and let us know if there is anything that we can do to support your child at school. We also appreciate when parents practice with their child at home. We’re in this together!

Rocket Launch Leaders

Special thanks to Ellie, Carson, Brandon, Jason and Corbin for helping out during conferences. They were our Rocket Launch Leaders, welcoming families as they entered Mighty McMillan. They were also great sales people, as they pushed our Smencils and Subway coupon books. We are always looking for ways for students to become “decision makers, independendent thinkers, and life long learners,” as is our McMillan Mission.

Hummer Limo Ride Next Friday….

We have some very excited children! Those students who were able to sell 2 or more boxes of candy and help us reach our goal, will be able to ride in a Hummer Limo on Friday the 21st. Children who are eligible will receive a permission slip that will have to be returned in order to ride. Thanks to all parents who helped make our candy bar sale a huge success!! Mighty McMillan Loves to Walk!

A huge thank you to our PTO moms, Debbie Schmidt, Lynnette Grimard and Brandy Kersting for organizing our Walk a thon during lunch recess this week. All students, even those who weren’t able to get pledges, participate and earn beads for every lap they walk. This is one of the many activites that our PTO plans for our students during the year. We would love to have you join! Our meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month at 6:00 in our library. If you aren’t able to attend our meetings, please offer your time to volunteer. Fill out the two hour pledge form, return it to your child’s teacher and Debbie will give you a call when we need extra hands. Our, you may e-mail Debbie at alwaysabt@frontier.net.
