Middle School is an interesting time. Developmentally, students look for more independence and are learning how to handle the added responsibility that comes with it.
In addition to dealing with this challenge, students are also caught between enjoying things like dressing up for Halloween and deciding whether or not they are too “mature” for it.
If they choose to, staff and students at Reeths-Puffer Middle School will be allowed to dress up for Halloween on Monday, October 31. Please remind your students that they will not be allowed to wear masks or costumes that violate the general dress code. In other words, costumes should be age appropriate and not have blood, be gruesome in nature, or convey violence.

Among the things you’ll find on this site are the schedule for the 2011 test and the new MEAP “Cut Scores”
Next week (week of October 10) marks the beginning of this fall’s MEAP testing. Please take a look at the tips below, in order to help your student be the best prepared they can be.
MEAP Tips for Parents
Parents can make an invaluable contribution to improved MEAP scores by helping your son/daughter come to school on MEAP days prepared for success.
•Make sure your child is well rested.
•Make sure your child is not hungry. High protein meals are recommended.
•Students should come to the MEAP tests relaxed, but also understanding the importance of staying on task and doing their best.
•Avoid scheduling medical, dental, or other appointments on MEAP days. Research shows students do better when tested with their class than in a make-up session
Wednesday, October 5 is the first official “Count Day” of the 2011-2012 school year. Thank you for you help to ensure that your student(s) is/are in school and on time.
If you’re reading this, you undoubtedly know at least something about blogs:)
As you know, a blog (short for weblog) is like an online journal. It can be about anything the blogger (blog author) wants to write about — politics, golf, the Beatles — in this case Reeths-Puffer Middle School.
Every teacher at Reeths-Puffer Middle School has a classroom blog. Many of our staff actively update their blogs on a consistent and continuous basis. Our staff has found that this is a great way to communicate with students and their families. With this in mind, I would ask you to consider “subscribing” to your students’ teachers’ blogs. In doing so, you will receive electronic notification of any updates that have taken place on your students’ teachers’ blogs.
If you should need any help with subscription, please feel free to send me an to Mr. Renes at:
renesr@reeths-puffer.org.
Wednesday, October 5, will mark International Walk to School Day. The benefits of exercise, including walking, are well documented. With this in mind, Reeths-Puffer Schools, along with other local agencies, has been working toward a partnership with Safe Routes 2 School, in the development of sidewalks from Horton to Central Elementary School.
In 1997, the Partnership for a Walkable America sponsored the first National Walk Our Children to School Day in Chicago, modeled after the United Kingdom’s lead. Back then, it was simply a day to bring community leaders and children together to create awareness of the need for communities to be walkable. By 2000, children, parents, teachers and community leaders in the U.S. joined millions of walkers around the world in the first international celebration of Walk to School Day. (information from Safe Routes)
If you live within walking distrance to the Middle School, please consider walking with your students to school on Wednesday, October 5.
To report a student absent, please call Student Services at 744-4721, extension 4006. Please indicate your child’s name, the date, the reason for the absence, and the symptoms if the absence is related to an illness. For work missed, while your student is out, please note that many teachers post daily assigments to their blogs. If your student has been out or is expected to be out for 5 or more days, please feel free to request work through the office.
Reeths-Puffer Middle School’s 2011 Open House is scheduled for Monday, September 12 (6:45 PM – 8 PM). Please join Mr. Renes in the gymnasium at 6:45 PM. From there, students and their parents will be welcome to visit their student’s teachers and classrooms.
We hope to see you there!

Dear Parent/Guardian:
The beginning of the school year is an exciting time, as well as a potentially stressful time for students and their families. Arguably one of the most stressful aspects of the start of the year is getting your schedule. Between meeting new teachers and finding their classrooms, this can be a challenging time for anyone. While we work very hard to minimize the level of anxiety that students and their families experience during the start of the school year, there are occasions when changes, including those related to student schedules, need to take place.
Each spring, based on student interest/request, as well as projected numbers (based on the best information available at the time), a tentative master schedule is generated and school staff are assigned accordingly. Throughout the summer, as students register and move, minor adjustments are generally made. This year, because of a significant number of recent changes, including a considerable number of new enrollees, as well as having a number of students moving out of the area, we are challenged with making some difficult changes, while impacting as few students as possible.
With this in mind, it is my intention to inform all of our students and their families that some of our students will notice changes made to the schedules they received during this week’s registration. Again, it is our expectation that a minimum number of students will be effected, nonetheless, we take any change made seriously.
If you should have any questions, please give me a call at (231) 744-4721.
Thank you for your support and Go Rockets!
Sincerely,
Rob Renes Principal
