Box Tops for Education

This year, you do not have to glue or tape the box tops on to the sheets of paper as in the past.  Just put them in a baggie or an envelope and have your child return them to their teacher.  The teacher will  put them all in a large envelope and the PTO will collect them the last Friday of each month.

Rocket Scholars Foundation

Board of Trustees:

Gina Faino, co-chair; Jackie Somerville, co-chair; Rita Whitaker, secretary/treasurer;  Mike Lyons, secretary/treasurer; Marie Hoppa, head of mailing committee; Tim Arter, trustee; Amy Lindenbaum, trustee; Tony Schmitt, trustee; Matt Pallett, trustee

Background:

The Rocket Scholars Foundation began as a question:  “How can we increase the number of students who challenge themselves to higher academic achievement?”  After forming a committee of Reeths-Puffer Alumni and parents, it was decided that a scholarship foundation for students would be a commendable investment for all Reeths-Puffer students today and in the future.

Belief Statement:

High Academic achievement should be the goal of each student’s education.  Scholarships rewarding these efforts will foster a culture of rigorous classroom experiences with high academic expectations.

Donor Levels:

Rocket Fellowship – $10,000

Rocket Scholar of Academic Achievement – $5,000

Rocket Scholar of Wisdom – $3,750

Rocket Scholar of Education – $2,500

Rocket Scholar of Growth – $1,250

* Gifting may be completed in equal increments over five years.

For on-line giving go to the Community Foundation for Muskegon County web page (https://www.cffmc.org/donations).  In Step 1, choose general gift.  In Step 2, designate a specific fund as Rocket Scholars Foundation.

There are several tax advantages available to donors to Community Foundations.  You can access information about the tax advantages by going to the Muskegon Community Foundation web site (www.cffmc.org).  Just to give you an example, Michigan residents can enjoy a substantial tax incentive by contributing directly to a community foundation.  The actual cost of a $200 gift to the Rocket Scholars Foundation through the Muskegon Community Foundation could be as little as $38.  Assume a Federal Marginal Income Tax rate of 31%.  The savings from Federal taxes would amount to $62; the savings from state taxes would be half the gift, $100.  Total tax savings would be $162, leaving an actual cost to the donor of only $38.

Thank you for supporting Reeths-Puffer Schools.
