Local Students will take discovery flights with the West Michigan Flight Academy (WMFA) in collaboration with the 21st Century After school programs of Muskegon. At 3:30 PM students from Steel, Bunker, Holton, and Reeths Puffer will be treated to airplane rides because of the great focus and commitment to their work in 21st Century-WMFA’s Young Aviators after school program.
The “Young Aviators Club” (YAC) introduces students to the world of aviation and related careers, while providing ongoing extended learning opportunities for students. WMFA involve parents and community members as partners in the education process utilizing their skills and knowledge to support the development of YAC. “Whatever we can do to help just let us know and it’s yours.” Rex Vanderlinde President, Executive Air Transport. “This is an amazing opportunity for our kids.” Joanna Christophersen, Program Director Muskegon 21st Century After School Program.
In addition to flying on May 17th students will tour the maintenance facility of Executive Air Transport located at Muskegon County Airport to learn more about aircraft maintenance and construction. This is a tour that students will be very interested in, as it relates to their current construction project of radio control airplanes as part of YAC.
WMFA is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing inner-city youth the opportunity and the tools to pursue a highly advanced technical career related to the Aviation and Aerospace industries. Creating experiences for students that builds character develop skills in communication, social, technical, professional discipline and accountability.
This is only the first step for these young Aviators for they are to participate in WMFA flight training summer program starting June 14th.
