Next week Tuesday, March 6th and Thursday, March 8th, we will host parent/teacher conferences in the arena from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

  • Second Ticket Drawn: $50.00 gift certificate to the Rocket Express
  • Third Ticket Drawn:  Rocket All-Sports Pass for the 2012-13 school year
  • Fourth Ticket Drawn: $50.00 gas card to Wesco

For every teacher you conference with on your student’s schedule, you will receive a ticket (from their teacher).  At the conclusion of Thursday night’s conferences, I will draw four tickets and place them on my blog.  So, in order for you to see if you won, you will have to access my blog.

This is a great time for you to discuss the progress made in your high school student’s classes directly from their teachers.  For the parents of seniors, this will mark the last parent/teacher conference for your son or daughter!  Make it a point to hear from their teachers one last time about the expectations still remaining up to and through graduation.

The Rocket Express will also be open for your Rocket shopping needs.  If you have yet to see our school store, I know you’ll be impressed with the selections available to you.  A big thanks to Tammy Whynot, our store director, who has done a marvelous job of stocking a Rocket fan’s every need and desire!

Synthetic Drugs: An Awareness Note

Filed under: Archive,Community News,Parents,School Board,Staff,Students — Mr. Beckeman @ 8:09 am

The availability of synthetic drugs isn’t just a worry for a large city setting.  They are here in Muskegon county.  Recently on the campus of GVSU, students were taken to the hospital for treatment due to inhaling bath salts.  Synthetic drugs such as K2/Spice, a marijuana replacement and bath salts are becoming more prevalent and the war against them begins with educating people of their impact on the user.  Click on the video below to learn more about K2/Spice.

The link below will provide additional information on K2/Spice.

Synthetic Marijuana

The use of bath salts has changed from their original use of softening skin and exfoliation (think callouses on your feet) to becoming a synthetic drug replacing cocaine.

R-P Golfer Signs with Davenport University

Filed under: Archive,Community News,Parents,School Board,Staff,Students — Mr. Beckeman @ 3:45 pm

Brennan Hallberg will change her school colors from green and white to red and black this fall as she will compete as a Panther for Davenport University’s golf team.  Brennan had such an impact on Davenport golf coach, Ms. Melanie Loughin that she offered Brennan a scholarship after their initial meeting!

When asked about her visit to Davenport University, Brennan remarked, “The quad living arrangement allows us all to have our own room.  Davenport is also adding sports facilities for their athletes that are pretty nice too.”

Brennan mentioned that her irons are her strong point of her game and looks forward to competing at the college level.

Below is a photo of Brennan and her two coaches.  On Brennan’s right is Davenport’s golf coach, Ms. Melanie Loughin and on her left is R-P golf coach, Mr. Chris Carter.

Davenport University has placed a photo of Brennan on their website.  To view the photo along with her playing schedule, click on the link below.

We’re very proud of Brennan and look forward to hearing great things from her impact on the golf course playing for Davenport University next year.

R-P’s Nick Somerville Signs with Davenport University

Senior Nick Somerville can relax a bit as he starts his final season wearing the green and white for our varsity baseball team this spring.  The reason behind the relaxed attitude is due to his signing on to play as a scholarship athlete for Davenport University’s baseball team.

When asked about how it felt to sign a national letter of intent to play college ball, Nick remarked, “Walking into the room I had a stomach full of butterflies, and I couldn’t even imagine that this was actually happening.  From day one, I have always wanted to go to the next level.  I wanted to succeed in baseball every way possible.  I have challenged myself to be a better player and I’ve worked to my best ability to reach the next step in my baseball career.  Knowing I was about to make my dream come true was one of the best feelings I’ve ever had. ”

Click on the links below to see photos of Nick, his family and his new coach.
