Sports Physicals This Week!

Filed under: Community News, Parents, School Board, Staff, Students — Mr. Beckeman @ 3:08 pm

For any student planning on participating in sports or marching band for the 2010-11 school year, you’ll want to circle May 26th from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m. on your calendar to come to R-PHS to get your school physical in the arena.

In order to get a physical, a completely filled out physical card (including parent signature) must be presented at the time of the physical.  Physical forms are available in the school’s offices and will be available on the day of the physicals by the arena.

The cost of the physical is $20.00.  Checks should be payable to R-PHS Athletics.  There will be three doctors and two nurses from Bear Creek Health Center on hand to manage physicals.

Record Setters at Track Regionals

Filed under: Community News, Parents, School Board, Staff, Students — Mr. Beckeman @ 2:46 pm

Heads were turning at the recent track regionals held at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids as the duo of Allix Miller and Christy Schultz burned up the track in route to three regional championships and two new school records.

Junior Allix Miller won the 200 m race with the time of 25.5 seconds and broke the R-PHS school record in the 400 m race with a time of 58.6.

Freshman Christy Schultz won two regional championships in the 100 m race with a time of 12.2 and a new school record in the long jump with a leap of 18′ 1 1/4 “.

The girls now move on to Rockford High School on June 5th to compete in the state track championships.  There’s a good chance that new records might be broken as these girls are both talented and determined!

R-P Soccer Goes Pink

Filed under: Community News, Parents, School Board, Staff, Students — Mr. Beckeman @ 2:16 pm

The R-PHS girls soccer team traded in their green and white uniforms for pink ones last Friday night to support cancer awareness and went on to defeat the Norsemen from North Muskegon.

Senior Emily Swain was instrumental in organizing this event which was our second annual benefit in the fight against cancer.

The varsity game was really never a contest as our girls easily won the game by the score of 6-0.  In this game, there really wasn’t a loser as North Muskegon also helped to raise funds for the cancer research.

No More Sidelines

Filed under: Community News, Parents, School Board, Staff, Students — Mr. Beckeman @ 10:30 pm

R-PHS students Courtney and Alivia Blair have great reason to be proud of their mother!  Mrs. Cyndi Blair, current nursing supervisor for Muskegon County Community Mental Health and proud mother of two current R-P students is the major force behind the regionally successful “No More Sideline” organization.

“No More Sidelines” is an organization where special needs students gather from the greater West Michigan area to forge new friendships, play in games, go to dances and enjoy many other activities that other kids enjoy doing.

Many R-P students benefit from “No More Sidelines” through extended friendships, community activities and sporting events all made possible by a handful of committed volunteers under the guidance of Mrs. Blair.

Recently, Wood TV8 ran a story on the success of “No More Sidelines” which can be viewed by clicking on the link below.

No More Sidelines

Our community is fortunate to have R-P parents; Cyndi Blair, Shari Forner and Mark Lewis helping to provide memorable opportunities for the kids that make up “No More Sidelines”.

R-P Wise Buddies

Filed under: Community News, Parents, School Board, Staff, Students — Mr. Beckeman @ 3:25 pm

Mrs. Wise’s class, now known as the R-P Wise Buddies, has adopted Pound Buddies Rescue.  As a team, they have chosen to help raise funds by making home-made dog biscuits and baked goods to sell at various events.  The students also donate their time to volunteer at weekend events to sell these items.  Funds raised help pay for vet and food expenses for our current foster dogs.

Last month was GO ORANGE for the A.S.P.C.A. (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).  Mrs. Wise’s students wanted to enter the phot contest to support “GO ORANGE” month.  As a group, they designed their own tee-shirts with the A.S.P.C.A. and Pound Buddies Rescue logo on them.  Their picture represented R-PHS supporting the A.S.P.C.A. with all of the students and staff in their orange tee-shirts and Mrs. Wise’s four dogs.

The nationwide contest chose the top ten pictures as winner.  The R-P Wise Buddies were one of the ten chosen from all the entries across the country.  The R-P Wise Buddies are now on the A.S.P.C.A. website and each student received a Harley dog as gift for their efforts.

It sure is nice to see the depth of caring our students have for animals and through their efforts, many dogs will benefit from the fundraising done.

A hearty thanks goes out to Mrs. Wise, staff and especially the students who worked so hard on this project!  (Click on photo to enlarge)

Softball Team Adds Their Touch To Field

Filed under: Community News, Parents, Staff, Students, Uncategorized — Mr. Beckeman @ 12:45 pm

The R-PHS girls softball team has spruced up their “digs” by adding the R-P logo and name plate to their dugout.

Softball Dugout

Since taking the program over in 2008, Head Coach Trista Stingle has made it a priority for each team to “leave their mark” on their home field to build team unity and pride in the R-P softball program.

Since 2008, the following improvements have been made to the complex:

  • Roll top door added to the press box
  • Sound system for announcing games
  • New countertops and shelving at concession stand
  • Distance signs posted on outfield fence
  • Team accomplishment banners proud hung on dugout
  • Wood cubbies and equipment hooks in both dugouts
  • 43 x 4 sign: Rocket Softball placed on outfield fence

Coach Stingle commented: “I am humbled by the willingness of so many people in this district and within the community who have given their time, money and constant support to the softball program.  Thank you!”

Bag of Books!

Mrs. Vincent, R-PHS Library Media Specialist, has put together a great opportunity for all high school students for summer reading.  The program is titled: “Bag of Books” and provides students with a great opportunity to check out books through the LMC for the summer.  Click on the link below for more information.
