Street Smart Assembly: Intense!

Filed under: Archive,Community News,Parents,School Board,Staff,Students — Mr. Beckeman @ 1:53 pm

This Wednesday, 2 paramedics from Orlando, Florida spoke with Junior and Seniors about what it means to be Street Smart when it comes to using substances and driving motor vehicles.  Their presentation included pictures and a demonstration of the techniques used to immobilize an injured person after a car crash.  Senior Julius Palmer volunteered to help with the demonstration and said, “It was somethin’ else…it made me realize it’s a lot worse than what people think.  They can’t give you pain killers because of your injuries, and they have to use their tools and do surgery without medication.”  Several other students said it was an “intense experience” that made them stop and think.

We want to encourage all students to be street smart, espcecially around the Prom and graduation season.

World Language Across The Curriculum

Filed under: Archive,Community News,Parents,School Board,Staff,Students,Vision & Purpose — Mr. Beckeman @ 11:34 am

Starting in the fall of the 2010-11 school year, Spanish will be delivered across elementary, intermediate and middle school grades so students will enter the high school with credits earned in Spanish I and potentially Spanish II.  This curricular change will result in an expanded opportunity for elective choices for students over the course of their four years in the high school.

I have linked three documents that will assist you in understanding why the district has moved to deliver Spanish at lower levels.  Please review the links provided below for detailed information on the upcoming changes.
