ITL: A Success Story

Filed under: Archive,Community News,Parents,School Board,Staff,Students — Mr. Beckeman @ 7:42 am

Senior, Tyler Keech was recently recognized by Captain Mark Lewis for his outstanding performance as an intern with the Muskegon Township Police Department.

When asked what was a highlight of the internship with the department, Tyler shared this:  “The highlight of my internship with the Muskegon Police Department had to be being able to ride in teh patrol car everyday.  Each day it could have been anything from domestic violence, warrant pick-ups or even a drug bust.  It was awesome to get a first-hand experience of what my future career might be.  The internship showed me both the good and the bad aspects of the job and strengthened my overall understanding of that career. ”

Tyler is enrolled in our Incentive To Learn program which is a work-based learning program that allows qualified upper class students the opportunity to work in real-world workplace settings for elective credit under the supervision of a community-based mentor.

Tyler received outstanding marks from Captain Lewis and was awarded a certificate of appreciation from the department.  It was a proud moment for Tyler when he received his award.

School Board Appreciation Night

Filed under: Archive,Community News,Parents,School Board,Staff,Students — Mr. Beckeman @ 1:23 pm

Often times, school board members don’t get the recognition deserved them for the time they spend away from home serving their community.  In honoring our school board last night, R-P Superintendent, Mr. Stephen Cousins remarked; “Serving as a school board member is the purest form of democracy we have.”  We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated group of people serving our school district!

Senior Travis Hyma donated his beautiful artwork of an elephant to the school board and received a hearty round of applause from the audience.

Mrs. Harris, Travis’ art teacher was present at the meeting and was recognized along with the other district art instructors for their expertise in building the skill levels in the student art donors.   Travis’ art is shown in the photos below.  If you click on the photo, it will enlarge for a better view.

A Commitment to Graduate

In partnership with Jostens, a banner was created and signed by over 280 freshmen to make the commitment to graduate on time with their classmates.

Yesterday, Mr. Aaron Hein, sales executive for Jostens presented a banner titled:  Reeths-Puffer Class of 2013:  A Commitment to GraduateMr. Hein was on campus to stage a ring assembly for our freshmen and as always, did a fine job with his presentation.

The energy in the Rocket Centre peaked when Mr. Hein challenged the students to commit to their education and make graduation a reality in the spring of 2013 and sign the banner as a testament to this goal.  Below are some of the photos taken as the students responded well to the challenge.

This banner will be placed in the freshmen hallway as a reminder to keep focused on your education and the commitment made to graduate.

Rockets Join Dutch in Purple Game

Filed under: Archive,Community News,Parents,School Board,Staff,Students,Uncategorized — Mr. Beckeman @ 4:58 pm

Holland High School was the host for Purple Game II between and the Dutch and Rockets.  The basketball contests ended with the same results from their first meeting, the varsity girls won and the guys lost.  Both games came down to the last few minutes in determining who won with both schools’ purple-clad student sections showing great school pride in cheering for the players.

Overall, it was a great evening for high school sports as well as a night out to support cancer research.  The link below is a photo gallery of the night’s action.
