An update on the Accreditation Standard II:  Governance & Leadership

As reported in the spring 2009 report, the commendations noted by the Quality Assurance Review Team (QART) for Governance & Leadership were:

  • Mission statement is visually displayed throughout the school
  • Parents are involved as needed in school
  • Parents feel that policies are followed
  • Students are aware of writing goal.  They write in most content areas
  • School is safe
  • Many options for students to take advanced and AP courses
  • Staff make students comfortable
  • Points of pride from each department shared
  • Fine Arts Department
  • Common Assessments and Common Exams are in place

The QART suggested the following recommendations for action planning for the 2009-10 school year:

  • Increase understanding & engagement in the 7 Standards among instructional staff
  • Update goals based on data
  • Use SRI and Lexile scores as data points for reading goal
  • Engage strategies for special ed. subgroup across the curriculum

The action plans that staff have initiated are:

  • Restructured NCA Leadership team to develop standard experts to facilitate deeper understanding and implementation with instructional staff
  • Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) was given in September with progress monitoring SRI planned for January and final assessment planned for May
  • Reciprocal Teaching strategy engages all students to improve not only reading comprehension but to build personal skill sets in the areas of summarizing, questioning, clarifying and predicting
