A very special thanks goes out to Lemieux family, Donna Durda, Connie Falbe and Bob Carter for their hard work and dedication to the Turkey Run every year.  Without their commitment to this project, it would be impossible to serve the greater Muskegon Community so well during the Thanksgiving Holiday.

You can count on R-P to be ready next year for Turkey Run 2010!

The Turkey Run!

Filed under: Community News,Parents,Staff,Students — Mr. Beckeman @ 8:23 am

R-PHS has partnered with the Salvation Army for over 20 years helping to provide Thanksgiving dinners to those who without this service, would not enjoy a traditional holiday meal.

Many high school students, staff and community members will assist in making nearly 2,000 meals this Thanksgiving holiday.  The joy experienced by those that help truly makes their holiday much more meaningful.

The meals created include:  turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, stuffing and roll.

If you would like to help, there are shifts Wednesday morning from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 – 1:00 p.m.,  Thursday (Thanksgiving day): 10:00 – 1:30 p.m.  The help needed on Thanksgiving day includes organizing the meals (assembly line style) and delivering the meals to the homes around Muskegon County.  Just come to the high school cafe during the times listed above and your willing service will be put to use!

Art Students Pit Fire Pots

Filed under: Community News,Parents,Staff,Students — Mr. Beckeman @ 10:31 am

Students in Mr. Hellmann’s art classes took to starting fires in garbage cans!  The fire that was started in these garbage cans was strategically set as part of a firing process for clay work done by the students.  I have placed the process students used in the link below:

ExxonMobil Supports R-PHS

R-PHS has received a $750 grant from the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program to support our school’s Lexile Improvement Initiative.

Michell Mertes, manager of Blarney Castle Oil Company in North Muskegon worked with me to secure the grant, which is one of 2,400 available to schools across the country served by Exxon or Mobil stations.  The grants were made possible by funding from the ExxonMobil Corporation.

“Reeths-Puffer High School works hard to make learning interesting and fun,” said Michelle of Blarney Castle.  “As a retailer, I am proud to help young people at R-PHS.”

The ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program is designed to provide Exxon and Mobil retailers with an opportunity to invest in the future of their communities through educational grants to neighborhood schools.  ExxonMobil believes that, as members of the community, local retailers are best qualified to work with local educators to help identify schools and programs that can use the support.

On behalf of R-PHS, we say “Thank-You” to our educational friends at Blarney Castle!
