Orientations Set For Opening Day!

Students in grades 9, 10 and 11 will take part in an orientation in the Rocket Centre to gear up for a successful school year.  The orientation schedule is as follows:

8:00 – 9:00 a.m.          Freshmen Orientation in Rocket Centre

9:00 – 10:00 a.m.       Sophomore Orientation in Rocket Centre

10:00 – 11:00 a.m.     Junior Orientation in Rocket Centre

Students will be provided with important information about the high school as well as a question and answer time with me.

A more detailed review of the student handbook will occur on Thursday during class.

R-PHS Awarded Grant Through ExxonMobil

I just received notice that R-PHS has been awarded a $750.00 grant to be used by the high school to advance student learning.  We’ve enjoyed a wonderful partnership with our local Blarney Castle company who over the years, has been a great supporter of our school district. 

I was encouraged by associates at Blarney Castle to apply for a grant that has as its focus, an increase in the number of students entering careers in the fields of math and science.

Rest assured, this grant money will go directly to our math and science departments to augment student achievement with the hope that more of our students will consider a career in these two focused areas of study.

Professional Development (Day II)

The high school staff were active participants in reciprocal teaching as a reading comprehension strategy, reviewed current data on student performances on the MME, a presentation on lexile scores and how to interpret them and an update from the NCA steering team.

The day seemed to go well based on survey results taken at the conclusion of the school day.

Staff are ready for the arrival of students next week Tuesday!  A good year is upon us!

Day 1: Professional Development on Blogs

I’m excited to start my 20th year at R-PHS!  Today begins our year with two days of staff professional development.  Day 1 consists of morning instructional strategies with the afternoon session dedicated to blog training.  I believe the staff will think their time was well spent.
