Yesterday, the School Aid Conference Committee passed the 2009-10 School Aid Act (HB 4447) out of committee. The bill contains $482.8 million in cuts from current years spending. The bulk of the reduction, 346.4 million, would come from the per pupil decrease. That would equate to $218 per student.
The bill also would cut in half funding for the Great Start Readiness program, cuts ISD funding by 45% and eliminates funding for school bus inspections as well as other significant cuts to categorical programming.
Our leadership team at R-P will do our very best in protecting the classroom programming as we engage strategies toward dealing with the significant fund reduction.
